Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is Now Available for Adolescents

Following the earlier expansion by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to include adolescents 12 through 15 years of age, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) endorsed the safety and effectiveness of this vaccine and its use. CDC now recommends that this vaccine be used among this population, and providers may begin vaccinating them right away.

Additionally, the New York State Department of Health (DOH) Countermeasure Data Management System (CDMS) team updated the Pfizer form to include ages 12 and up. The previous first question which asked "Will you be under the age of 16 on the day of your appointment?" now instead is changed to 12, as with the guidance messages no longer referring to 16.

If you are utilizing Pfizer and planning to accept 12 and up, DOH recommends reviewing your public notes section under your operation details to ensure you update any age references if applicable, you will also want to review your counties policies on parental consent for this age group.

If there are any questions, please reach out to the CDMS team at
