Cuomo Announces NY Will Drop ‘Virtually All’ COVID-19 Restrictions When Vaccination Rate Hits 70%
June 7, 2021
Governor Cuomo informed New Yorkers that 68.6% of all adults in the state have had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. He further explained reopening guidance will be lifted across commercial and social settings when New York surpasses the threshold of 70% likely by the end of June. This includes retail, food services, offices, gyms and fitness centers, amusement and family entertainment, hair salons, barber shops, personal care services and other commercial settings. However, institutional guidelines will remain in place for large venues, pre-K to 12 schools, public transportation, homeless shelters, and correctional and healthcare facilities.
Unvaccinated individuals will still be responsible for maintaining proper social distancing of six feet and wearing a mask as per federal CDC guidance. Consistent with the State's implementation of the recent CDC guidance, masks will still be required for unvaccinated individuals.
