ALERT: False Information on Testing for COVID-19 at FQHCs
Updated: Mar 16, 2020
Update for 3/16/2020
HRSA's website now states -
Health centers are an important component of the national response to the COVID-19 virus. Call your nearest health center to find out the availability of COVID-19 screening and testing.
Health Centers can assess whether a patient needs further testing, which may be done over the phone or using telehealth. Individuals may also receive primary health care services at their local health center at a reduced cost or free of charge depending on their economic status.
Please note that HRSA says to call health center to find out availability of testing and that CHCs provide primary care at reduced cost or free. HRSA does not say that CHCs provide free testing for coronavirus, which is what dealsfinder claimed, inaccurately.
Dear Health Centers:
We have been alerted about a website called dealsfinders.blog is informing the public that they can get free COVID-19 testing at FQHCs and have posted a link to the HRSA.gov “find a health center” function. CHCANYS has also received reports that New York State CHCs have received calls from people that have received this information in a text.
The Website and texts are not sanctioned by HRSA or any official organization. CHCANYS reported this to the New York State Department of Health and the New York Attorney General.
Please let CHCANYS know if you are receiving requests for testing based on this information.
